صباح الفل
after Ramadan we celebrate the breaking of our fast for 3 dayes .
1 -''il kaHk '' eed cookies
before the Egyptians used to the last two dayes of Ramadan in baking " il kaHk " which is the eed cookies but now most of the people buy ready made ones .
2 -''geeting ready for guests''
by cleaning the house and wash everythings to make everything looks new again and waiting for the guests
3 - '' new money - 3eedeyya ''
also Egyptians go to the bank and exchange old money for new money ,, because in eed you must give any child you see in the family '' 3eedeyya " new money and these ''
3eedeyya '' start from 5 le to 100 le it depends on how old is the child and how rich you are .
after the first day the child now almost had his 3eedeyya from every one in the family so he can buy any thing he wants or he can save it if he wants .
4 -"new clothes'' - ''libs gedeed ''
also every child should have a new set of clothes for the eed ,, also every wife should have " 3eedeyya " and also new clothes from the husband "" ooh poor man ..lol.
5 - " zakat il feTr "
in the last day of Ramadaan you we have to pay " zakat il feTr " and these zakah is amount of seeds or you can pay money both go to poor pepole the seeds to eat or the money to get new clothes or give 3eedeyya to their children ,, and you give these zakah in order that your fasting will be accepted from Alah .
6 -"Salat il 3eed" - the eed prayer
in the first day of eed we have a special prayer at 6 o'clock in the early morning these prayer must be in the street so all muslim families gather and pray short prayer and give the children candy and cookies and after the prayer we start to visit and go out .
I hope you enjoy the eed with us and have a happy eed .
Ramadan is a very special month , the quraan was reveled in the month of ramadan , and allah's message was transmitted to the prophet in ramadan , the Holy Spirit Gabriel , would come down in ramadan and spend hours and hours teaching him quraan , and studying it together .. ramdan holds a very special place in my heart , every year ramdan brings back lovely memories of my child hood , when me and my sisters uased to turn of all the lights after iftar , and hide under our beds , each one , with her lantern , the classic glass colored lantern , looked amazing in dark , we could just hang out and enjoy our time , singing the ramadan songs .. i remember like it was yesterday . One ramadan , when my momm , bought us a new type of lantern , i think i was about 7 years old , i was so fascinated , it was very nice , it looked like a mosque and it had a bird in side it , it worked by batteries , i loved it , especially that it was very convenient , it didn't burn my hand , i use to have a hard time dealing with the candles in the classic lanterns , but i still loved the classic style , it was more durable , the new ones are made in china , and they didn't seem to last that long .. it would break my heart when my lantern ( fanoos ) breaks , so i had a good plan , so i tried to keep my lantern in a good condition ,till the next ramadan , so the following ramadan i would u , use the old one as a back up , and also for indoor use , and the new one will be kept safe , i get it out of my closet , when other kids come over to play , with us , or when i go play in the street after iftar .. what is so funny , is that i always wanted and hoped for a Chiness Egyptian lantern , one that would look like the classic style i like , made of tine and colored glass , but operates on batteries , lol ...
This year we bought the kids lanterns , for ramadan , and i got a chance to sneak one , and take it to my bedroom and recall all the nice ramadan memories ..
i have been living outside Egypt for 5 years , but ramadan in Egypt is very specially , u smell ramdan in the air I'm very happy to spend this ramadan with my family , my oldest is 7 years old .. it made me feel very happy to see her playing with the lantern with the kids , and sing all the ramadan songs i used to sing with my sister's and my little brother ...
I'm glad that i got the chance to spend this ramadan with the family .. and gather for iftar , seyam ( fasting ) in ramdan , brings back memories too .. i started fasting very early , at age 7 .. it was hard at the beginning , especially in the summer , and sometimes i would be week and may be think of not continuing to fast , or think may be i could sneak something , but then i would stop my self , i also remember this one time , when i ate during the daytime in ramdan , and i totally forgot i was fasting , then i thought my seyam ( fasting ) was invalid , but when i told my momm , she calmed me down , and told me that if u forget it is no problem , even if u are an adult , it wouldn't hurt ur (seyam ) , ALLAH GIVES U AN EXCUSE , and then she told me that kids are not obliged to fast in ramdan , but if u really want to fast , no one will stop u , and if u choose not to fast no one will push u .. i likes to hear that , but i still wanted to fast , cause i wanted to feel am a big girl , and it used to please my mom , this ramdan my daughter just turned 7 ,and she is acting just like me when i was her age , she wants to fast and be a big girl , i try to till her that she doesn't have to do it , but she insist , she is being hardheaded about like i was when i was her age , honestly , it makes me happy , that my kids try to fast , it helps a lot actually in building their characters , it teaches them self control , and patience , and also it helps them to be responsible .. fasting is great .
It helps build your relation ship with your lord .. u know when i was a kid , sometimes i would think , i could say am fasting and go eat in the kitchen , with no body looking , but i would remember that all is above the heavens and that am fasting for his sake , so i stop my self , and when it is time to break fast we gather with all the family and it is so rewarding , i feel so proud of my selfe that i did it .. and this year as am turning 32 ,
I realized how much , this little task of fasting , that i chose to do , though i had the choice of not shouldering this responsibility at all , helped me in dealing with much bigger tests in life , and i always try to be A BIG GIRL , the same big girl attitude i had towards fasting , i would try to adapt with bigger issues in my life ...
this ramadan is very different for me , this ramadan am the same women of last ramadan , but a this year am A patient OF CANCER , last year and when i was pregnant with my last baby , i was diagnosed with breast cancer , stage 3 , i was 7 months pregnant .. and u could imagine , how hard that could be , being pregnant , and have cancer , and also living away from my family , and having to take care of 4 other little kids .
I had chemotherapy in pregnancy , i got very sick i lost all my hair , and had to bottle feed my baby , though i love to breastfeed , all my kids were breastfeed and i wore them for hours in a sling on my back in the kitchen , on my hips , and in the front , my kid are attached to me .. but alhamdulelah , allah supported me and give me patience , he granted me easy delivery .. one week after the delivery , i had to go 4 stronger chemotherapy , it made me very sick , i would Crowell to the kitchen to get a cup of water , but allah is all merciful , my mom was there by my side supporting me , telling me it will be o.k , and i was trying to be A big girl , the same big girl who want to try to survive the fasting , i tied to survive this big test , and ask allah to support me so i could survive it , and ramadan and fasting helped me a lot , i thought about it in the same way , u fast , u be patient , and then u get a reward i thought if i try to survive this big test allah will support me and at the end i will get the reward ..
I used to get very happy , when the time came to break my fast , even if the food i have for breaking fast is just a piece of bread , it still tasted so good and was so rewarding .. my big reward now , is my baby , allah gave me a lovely baby girl , she adores me mashallah , and she is very happy , she showers me with lovely kind looks , it is amazing that she is the most attached to me of all my babies , though i am bottle feeding her ,she is 6 months old now and in the first 3 months of her life , i didn't get to hold her much , i was busy seeing doctors , but she loves me very much , and she is the joy of my life , she makes me feel very special ....
i had a full mastectomy last June , alhamdullilah ( thanks to allah ) .. and feel very happy my hair is growing back .. and i have a new look , am happy with the new me .. and am happy that so far in this test , i have been A BIG GIRL ,though am in a lot of pain ..
i was raised in this way , u be patient u get rewarded , so i ask my LORD to reward me for my patience ....
i would love to hear other stories about ramadan from all of u , if u are an Egyptian , or if u are just visiting Egypt , share your stories in this blog .. and sane any pictures that u have taken that will express ramadan in Egypt ...

Patlican Karniyarik (Eggplant Stuffed with Meat)
Karniyarik is a "certified Turkish" recipe, which is widely made and loved almost in all over Turkey. It is a truth that Karniyarik is not a light dish, but it is absolutely delicious. Please try to use fresh eggplants as they tend to get soft in the refrigerator. Also, forget about huge American eggplants. It is better to use medium sized ones or Asian eggplants.
Ingredients
6 medium sized eggplants
2 onions, finely chopped
3 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
250 grams minced meat
5 tablespoons oil
250 grams chopped parsley
2 green peppers, sliced
salt, pepper
1. Remove tops of eggplants. Make a deep lengthwise incision in each eggplant.
2. Put them in salted water for about 20 minutes.
3. Drain and pat dry with paper towel. Fry eggplants lightly in oil, turning constantly.Remove from pan and set aside.
4. Brown onions, minced meat and peppers lightly. Add tomatoes and continue to cook for several minutes.
5. Remove from heat and add salt and pepper to taste.
6. Place eggplants in deep baking dish, cut sides facing up. Fill each eggplant with
the mince mixture. Top each eggplant with a slice of tomato and green pepper.
7. Add a cup of water to dish, cover and cook for 20-25 minutes or until tender, in oven or on stove top.
